Why You Should Skip Tourist Buffets

Why You Should Skip Tourist Buffets

Tourist buffets — large all-inclusive resorts, chain restaurants near tourist strips, 'eat all you want' deals — feel like good value. They're usually the worst food quality at the highest prices. Local restaurants serving fewer dishes at proper price often produce better food at less total cost.

Where to eat instead

Small local restaurants (look for places with locals eating). Markets and street food (with appropriate hygiene awareness). Local supermarkets and self-catering some meals. Restaurants 2-3 streets back from main tourist drag.

What this saves

Money (often 30-50% less than tourist strips). Time (tourist buffets queue and process). Memorable food experiences (one excellent local meal beats three mediocre buffet meals).

Most travellers default to convenient tourist food. Five minutes finding better alternatives transforms food experience.
